Theater at it's BEST!

We drove to Pippa Passes, KY last night to see the above young man, in his college play. He is such a character!
This was after the play. They wouldn't allow me to take pictures during the play. UGH! Notice the dirt and raggedy appearance of his clothes? He portrayed a taxi driver from New York City in 1935. The height of the depression.

He did an excellent job and we were all so proud! He was entertaining even after the play. Then he always is. LOL
OK, I realize I have the same photo on here twice. I have tried to delete this one, but can't get it figured out. UGH!
This is our back yard. We have two dogwood trees. I was playing with settings on our camera and thought these were beautiful.Our garden spot! I am very thrilled with this. Hopefully, we will have tomatoes, green peppers, onions and flowers here. I'll keep you posted!

One of the trees we planted last summer in the front yard. My hubby says it is a miniature magnolia. I think it is a tulip tree. Anyone want to send me the answer?

CTE OPEN HOUSE

This is the display of a few of the projects my students have done this school year. It was difficult for me to display only a few. I wanted to show everything they did. Can you tell I am proud of the kids in my classes?

They are the best!

We had a nice turn out by parents. I was thrilled with their willingness to stop their day and come by to visit their child's high school.

I have found the neatest website! It is http://www.joyofbaking.com/ I highly recommend you visit this site. All of the recipes my Foods class prepared for today were from that website.

The above tray is banana bread, no nuts, pecans are $9.00 a bag! Notice the filled strawberries in the back tray. I can't EVEN begin to describe to you how wonderful they tasted! The recipe called for mascarpone cheese. It is a little pricey, but ohhhhhhhh, it was worth it!

Mimosa punch

I developed the above recipe. Honestly, it really wasn't a recipe, I just added things until I thought it tasted the way I wanted. It was 2 cans of frozen o.j., 1 large can pineapple juice, 2 cans apricot nectar, 1 box frozen sweet strawberries and ginger ale. It really was the perfect drink for all the bakery goodies.

I am so sorry that I did not get a close up of the apple tart. That's it between the banana bread and the pound cake. Because we only had one spring form pan in the foods lab ( I actually bought the last one at the grocery store just before this lab), we only had one of these. It went quickly and I have been told was absolutely the best. Recipes were requested, which is why I shared the above website. If baking is in your future you should check it out! We are going to try scones tomorrow.

All in all, today was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect, parents and administrators were complimentary and much was marked off my to-do list.

I do think it is early to bed for me tonight.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Guess who is having a birthday.
Yes, it is a BIG birthday!

So BIG that someone visited the church last night and decorated his office.
Brave!

We have celebrated most of the weekend. Dearest D. made the cakes.
And this one. We invited 3 couples over for BBQ and fun.
Just before the "guests" arrived.
She found this round cake pan and decided he had to have a golf ball cake. The golf ball cake was chocolate and very tasty, the other cake was white and my favorite. YUM
Porcupine cake. LOL He did have enough air to blow them all out!

Rain Forest in the Mt's of TN

I am always amazed and thrilled how creative students are when given a challenge. Their creativity is an inspiration!

There are two rooms that make up the FACS department. The Foods Lab and then a Textile Lab room. For our teacher luncheons the Textile Room is transformed into a dining room.

Having a separate dining area serves two purposes, one, the teachers have an opportunity to sit and eat lunch in a pleasant, non-classroom setting, while being served. Two, it allows the students that are working in the kitchen, the opportunity to prepare food, clean up, and have last minute instructions(yep, by me!) without interrupting those that are dining. It's a Good Thing!

Today's luncheon was a success!

Students worked diligently to set the rain forest atmosphere for the dining room and the food that was prepared was tasty!

Do you see the monkeys that are hanging from the grapevine? They brought in stuffed animals from home for this design.

On the menu:

The students came up with the names of each of those food items. I hope I am remembering them correctly.
Next week we are having an open house. It is an opportunity for the CTE Department to show off the talents and skills of our students. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, drop by on Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00.

Loved and Tired

I know it has been a week since I've updated this post. Our week in Nashville was so much fun! The young ladies below were the two students that participated in competition. My darling H. gave last minute instructions on "How to give a speech". I am so proud of them!

This picture is from the next day for the award ceremony. They received a silver medal! I think they were more nervous having to go up on stage in front of approximately 1000 people than they were the actual competition.

There was a formal banquet that night. They are so beautiful!

I am blessed to have a job that allows me to work with these young people.

This week at school we have been working on a teacher luncheon, which is tomorrow. I was extremely busy today, when I happened to look out my classroom window.

I had to give them the camera to take a picture. LOL

I'm not sure if you understand the spelling of my name. The young man on the left the very first day of school this year, asked me if my name was theres a burton? He was serious! I have gone my entire life with my name spelled THERESA, this year I have a complete new pronunciation.

It really was funny!

They did clean off the toilet paper before they left school today. I drove through the car wash to get that chalk washed off.

It didn't work.

I had to get out the towels and window cleaner when I got home.

I feel loved! Thanks!

Our theme for the luncheon tomorrow is "Rain forest".

They chose this theme because last week while we were in Nashville, we ate at the Rain forest Cafe. I can't wait to show you how cute the tables are.

NASHVILLE, TN!

As it turns out, the hotel has internet connection and I brought my computer. Yea! Now I can give you a day by day account of our trip. LOL I'm not serious, but...... we are having a wonderful time! Remember those donuts? The girls sold enough that we were able to get tickets to the Grand Ole Opry! This is a photo just before we went inside. I am so proud of these girls! They are beautiful inside and out. I know their parents are so proud.

Ricky Skaggs has just made a new album of old Bluegrass music. We all enjoyed it. Yes Dad, I did see Bill Anderson! I remember when I was a little girl and you all would play those country albums. I saw him in concert tonight! He sang songs I remembered.

You may not know who Chuck Wicks is, but let me tell you...... He was fantastic! He sings the "Cinderella" song that is on all the radio stations. Keep on scrolling down for a dreamy picture of him. I couldn't help it!

I hope you and yours are having a wonderful Easter Sunday. We had a beautiful service this morning. I am so thankful to live in a country where I have the freedom to worship. Thank you Jesus!
Two of my most favorite people in the world! They both are precious. I have two other precious people in my life, but they chose to take a nap instead of snapping pictures.

My Christian tree. I love this feather tree! I am still working on learning to crochet and came across a pattern on the internet to cover plastic eggs. I had a ball doing those eggs. The church ornament is my very favorite. I keep it on all year long.
I am off to Nashville tomorrow afternoon. This will be my last post until next weekend. I'm sure I will have stories to tell. LOL We do have tickets for the Grand Ole Opry for Tuesday night. I can't wait to go!
