Here come those Donuts!

It's that time of year again.
Donuts!
This is the third spring FCCLA has sold donuts to help with the food cost of the state FCCLA meeting. This may not be the healthiest fundraiser, but it sure is popular!

The difficult part of this adventure, I have to get up at 4:45 a.m. and drive to the donut place, ring a door bell, wait, and then load donuts into my vehicle. My patience was tried this morning when I had to ring the bell more than once and then was met by someone who struggled with helping me in an efficient manner. It was further aggravated by the employee that arrived early to work and choose to smoke a cigarette in my breathing space.
This was all before I had a Diet Coke!
Upon leaving the donut store, I had to go to the grocery store and shop for this week's teacher luncheon. I took pictures so you could have an idea of what my van looked like on the inside. Unfortunately you can't smell through a computer. Imagine driving 30 miles, smelling freshly baked yeast donuts!

What you can't tell, is how deep my trunk is. This is the first trunk I've had in a mini van - I don't think I could have delivered all those donuts in my old one. Thank you Lord for providing me with the means to do what I enjoy!

We are serving chicken tortilla casserole for our teacher luncheon this week.
Everyone needs to know how to prepare a chicken for baking. :0)
Stay tuned... more to come.

Showing off

I forgot to post this photo, and yes,
I am showing off.
I used Michael Miller fabrics to make this apron for my DNL to be. She loved it and I had a ball making it.
I will be having an apron party this week, my FACS classes made aprons to wear in the foods lab. Their creativity amazes me! XOXO

Weekend in KY

I was able to spend a little time with this young man last weekend.

I also spent time with this group.

I had so much fun!

Why was I there?

This beautiful couple is beginning the last leg of their journey into marriage. A shower was given in their honor by her Grandmother. Her grandparents live in Butler County, KY, which is about an hour from my hometown.

Her Grandmother made this quilt.

It is so pretty! A perfect gift for a grandparent to give to a young couple.

Trying something new. I have uploaded all of the photos from the weekend onto my snapfish account. If you don't have a snapfish account, you can get one for free, which will allow you to view the album.

What a day!

We have had a memorable day!
Please forgive me for bragging. :0) Last night as my precious daughter and I were catching up (she opted to miss her spring break trip to Fl) I casually suggested she might want to try a recipe from my new cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks and have dinner waiting for me when I arrive home from school. LOL She said she thought she might, but her Dad wanted her to play golf with him.
As I'm leaving school and checking my text messages I read that my husband observed someone on the golf course today, make a "hole in one". To put this in perspective, all the conditions must be perfect, even then this is a rare occurrence.
I called her to see how the "cooking experience" was going and could tell from the happiness in her voice she had had a great day. Come to find out, she was the one that had hit that golf ball on the eighth hole, for a "hole in one"!
This was her first!
She hasn't played golf in a long while, maybe once last summer, and she goes out does this?
Wow!

After congratulatory words, I began asking her if she had found the cookbook I had left out for her to choose a recipe. She said yes, but was afraid they were too complicated for her to prepare.
I began laughing. - all the recipes in this cookbook are straight forward and with the step by step photos very easy to follow.
I think it was the "step by step" process that had her concerned.

With absolutely no offense to "The Pioneer Woman" my child remembered another blogger we follow also posts recipes. She said she knew if any one would have a super easy recipe it would be Kelly. :0) She went to Kelly's Korner and found a recipe she felt comfortable preparing. She went to the grocery store and bought the necessary ingredients. When I walked in the door, I could smell the wonderful scents.
Dinner was prepared!
She chose a Mexican chicken recipe from Kelly, made Spanish rice and decided to surprise me with

a fruit pizza for dessert!
It was a "Mother's Day" moment!
Everything was delicious, it was obvious she had enjoyed searching for and preparing a meal for others.
I felt the love in every bite!
Yes, I am a proud "mama" and I don't mind saying so! :0)

The End of One Road, Beginning of Another

We traveled to Pippa Passes, KY last night.
Why?
Our middle child's college concert performance (they begin their concert tour this week). Three years ago, he left the mountains of TN to attend a small, work-study college in Appalachia KY. He joined the concert choir and has enjoyed the opportunity to share his musical talent, make friends and many memories.

I am so jealous of that beautiful, shiny hair!
She was the perfect sister, supporting her big brother and encouraging him as he begins this last road of his college journey.
He shared how Alice Lloyd College has helped him find his purpose. He is in the process of preparing to go to Graduate School, eventually he hopes to be a Chaplain in the Armed Services. I am a proud "Mama". :0)

This group of young adults will leave Eastern KY on Thursday morning to travel through southern states, stopping several times to perform a beautiful concert, sharing the Voices of Appalachia.
Beautiful!

They will spend one day in Disney World, on a 10 day tour. I am worn out just thinking of the trip. I spoke with the new choir director and he shared how invaluable my child has been to the success of this choir. He was very complimentary on how well his transition had been to the college because of the leadership of this offspring.
Music to a mama's ears. :)

God be with you as you travel this road. May you be safe and return refreshed and ready to finish your final college semester.
XOXO
